Shift lever cover/sleeve/boot thing- Availability?
I'm looking to replace the leather-like cover located on the column-end of the shift lever, but I don't know where to start, as A) I don't know what this thing is called, and B) If I don't have a name for it, I can't do a search for it!
Does anyone happen to know what this is called and/or where I can get two of them (one for each of my '92's)? I suppose a Ford P/N would be help as well, if anyone happens to have that.
It's called a steering column boot. Lots of places to look but might check LMC trucks. I've never replaced one nor buy one but LMC is good for parts like that usually.
It's out of stock right now but these guys have it for a decent price. Looks a little hard to find but maybe you'll have better luck than I am.

I was on LMC earlier but skimmed right past it somehow! Guess I was going too fast...
Thanks for making me do a double-take, and I'll get them ordered-up right now.
(Edit: Looking at the differences in price, I think I may wait for a bit until NPD has them back in-stock. I mean, $125 at LMC versus $50 @ NPD! What the he__?)
I find good ones at the junkyard
Just replaced one last week on a 97 I picked up along with the shift lever
Quite the procedure, The key cylinder and the shrouds first
I disconnect the battery because the key will be on for a while unless you reinstall the cylinder

So the lock cylinder has to come out again? (sigh)
I say "again" as I had that thing in & out about 5-6 times this past weekend, as I replaced the original, worn-out lock with a new one (Standard Motor Parts item). But the new lock came with a key with only two small indents (I'd post a picture but I'm at the office right now), and to my third grade brain this looked like it would be easy to pick, so I opened it up and re-keyed it back to original. PITA to do it, but I got it.
Good on ya for being able to rekey the lock cylinder
Yes, it will need to come out again to get the shrouds off the column
Then the shift lever boot and the pin to release the lever from the tube
Inspect those OD switch wires while the lever is out (they break and fray)
You just overcome the little clips to push the fake leather cover up and out of the little slots in the housing

The shift column/lever and OD switch were replaced about 5 years ago (previous owner), so I think they should be ok....
And, yeah. I have to admit I'm a little proud of myself for re-keying that lock cylinder! It took about a half-hour, and several attempts, to get it right, but once I got it I was all smiles!
