Electrical problems

Hello, I purchased a 2002 Ford Excursion V10 4X4 last year with 59k miles.

I noticed soon after buying it that the door locks kind of stopped working, but then the next day they would suddenly be working. It didn't think much about it at the time.

Then after a couple of months, suddenly the ignition would not turn over, and the anti theft started going off. i had a locksmith come out and check the key and key fob, and that was not the problem.

I ended up disconnecting the battery and then reconnected the battery. Everything started working fine after that. That was about 3 months ago.

So last night I had my entire family in the excursion while driving back from a wedding 45 mile trip. It was night time. All of a sudden the headlights, taillights and entire instrument panel began flickering off and on.....I became very concerned that we going to have a complete electrical failure on the interstate.....thankfully we made to the exit ramp and I stopped at a gas station, where I turned off the engine and filled up the gas tank.

It appeared that after I restarted the engine and drove away from the gas pump the flickering lights stopped.....but we were only a mile from the house and at this point and made it to the house a couple minutes later......so I'm not sure if the issue resolved itself, most likely not resolved at all.

another note: as all the interior and exterior lights flickered off and on, I didn't notice any engine power loss or issues with acceleration, braking, steering, etc.....just electrical components.

also I live in Louisiana and we have experienced heavy rain the last few days......I bought the vehicle in California last year.......i didn't notice any electrical issues when I bought it and drove at back from California. I'm not saying water intrusion is the problem but I think it could be a possibility.

does anyone have any ideas of what could be happening. Or what I could troubleshoot? Any advice is very much appreciated. Thank you.

No expert here, but I would start by checking all fuses make sure none are loose corroded etc. Check under driver dash and under carpet sill area, probably headliner near windshield too. See if any water is in there. I would remove the A pillar plastic cover and inspect. Pretty common on EX's/F250/350 for water to leak in and get to fuse box area. Windshield gasket/seal is common culprit. Not sure if 2002 has the GEM mounted on back of fuse box, but I know there is a great thread from a guy who experienced something similar and he had a water leak. He ended up documenting taking everything apart and cleaning up the corrosion.

Cool Flashing interior and running board lights

Hello, this is six months late but let me tell you about my 00 expo and the mystery strobe lighting. I bought it this way officer I swear… kidding of corse. There was no law enforcement involved however I believe it is related to the anti theft system. Part because i recieved one key which is aftermarket and no fob and part because well, strobe lights are cool… kidding, of course.

Ok so also drivers door lights flash, shut it and open back door driver side and no flash wierd huh? use door mounted key pad and no strobes but use key and flash uh, strobe. You might also hear a loudish clicking coming from your fuse panel in lower dash… pull the top relay in the row of black relays, no more click, no more flash, no more interior lights unless one turns on the interior light needed sadly no running board lights And no more cops.. kidding on that last one. Note also though that the dash light for security still works when locked up. No pun intended.
