I'm new to the forums because I'm trying to figure out a really weird problem. Drove to grocery store yesterday, shut off the Excursion (2001, V10) and entire electrical system went dead. No interior lights. No door locks, no ignition, even clock in radio went dead. This is the second time this happened under similar circumstances.
After a couple minutes, it magically returned. Car started normally a few minutes later and drives fine otherwise.
- This morning, it started, then appeared to lose all electrical (lights flicker, engine starts to die) then immediately return and ran fine.
- Battery load tested last month, alternator tested as well. Both checked fine
- Battery terminals appear fine, not corroded, securely connected.
I've got a Chilton's manual, but electrical info in it is weak. Yeah, there's circuit diagrams, but not as good at telling someone where the physical parts are located. So, if you folks with more knowledge don't mind a little additional help:
- Also, where are grounding straps? I've heard those may be source of problem.
- Fusible links? How many are there? Where?
Only other thing I can think of is that it's been slow to start for a few weeks. I work 28 days on (overseas) and 28 off, and I attributed it to that. But now I'm wondering if there might be a relation.
Thanks everyone. As you can imagine, spending my 28 days home troubleshooting car issues isn't my first choice for how to spend my time.
The entire fsm can be had on eBay in cd form for around $14.
Or online for free. I like the printed version even at a few hundred dollars, just easier to use.
i haven’t used the online version in years but will see if I still have the link.

i have to agree the cd is a pain to navigate. I have the hard copy for my Jeep much better.

Was there an official re-print, or revision from Ford regarding these manuals, I have the 2001 Workshop manuals too, but I have 1A, 1B, and 2A, & 2B, looks like the 2 volumes might have been reduced to 2 smaller books?
Ya I’ve seen that before also, I think the 2 book set is just more pagesper book.
either way it is a infespensible resourceful you are going to to DIY or own one of these for the long haul.
