2001 F-250 V-10 fourdoor. 130,000 miles. Started fine Tuesday night, drove 10 miles, parked, came back 15 minutes later and wouldn't start.
When I try to turn it over, there is absolutely nothing. When ignition switch is in the ON position, the wipers run intermittently, the speedometer bounces up and down intermittently; and other lights in the instrument cluster flash on and off intermittently. However, the primary dome light does not come on whether manually turned on or if the doors are open.
Battery is relatively new. Shows 12.5 volts when key is off. Shows 0 volts when key is in START position.
The truck starts easily when it is jumped. However, when driving, my son turned on one of the side dome lights and it killed the engine dead.
I would say it's probably the battery, especially if it shows 0 volts under a load. I had a car once that acted the same. Jumped just fine, but if I turned anything on it killed it.
When I jumped it, it was night so I needed all my lights. Once the truck was running, head, tail, and running lights and turn signals worked fine. Entire ystem was charging at 13-14 volts. So why would turning on one of the supplemental dome lights kill the entire engine? That's why I think it is more than just a battery.
