M5OD Swap
Been challenging. Couple of questions.
1. the firewall had a lot of damage to it. The repair piece definitely will help but most likely I will pull the clutch master, brake booster and master cyl in a couple of years and remove/ replace the rectangular plate and install some new sheetmetal into the firewall.
2. The transmission tunnel. The trans has three bolts currently installed with the trans propped up under the truck. cross member isnt in the truck so it isn’t all the way into position and is already rubbing the top of the transmission the tunnel. Is there a floor panel that sits higher that can be welded in that allows the transmission not to be tight to the floor? Couldn’t find In LMC Truck or Rockauto.
3. what fluid did you use in the transmission?

As 2000DD said get the pan from a truck that has a M5OD. Your truck I think has the out line of where the pan fits but if not you can lay the pan on top so it lines up with the shifter.
Then mark around the outside of the pan, remove the man and mark the floor 2" in from the first mark and cut on that line.
I used close cell foam to seal between the floor and pan. Use self tapping screws to hold pan to floor.
BTW the pan had to be from a M5OD truck as the other pans has the shifter in a different location.
Pan on the left is for a T18. Pan on the right was for a SROD that I used to fit my truck that I installed a NP435 and the Advance Adapter over drive that pushed the trans back 7.5 inches.
If you look closely you can just make out the SROD pan had the hole to the rear and left that I filled in. The little hole / slot is for the OD lever.

OBS years are I think 87 to think 92? but not sure.
Like 2000DD said and I posted you need to get the cove pan from a truck that has or had the M5OD transmission.
Lay it on the floor, think there is an outline where it should fit. Mark the floor and cut in just inside that mark so the screws had something to go into.
No the cover pans from 100 / 150 / 250 / 350 will all bolt into the other model but the pans are made to fit only the model transmission it was made for.
the pan for a T18 / NP435 will not work with a SROD or M5OD even when it bolts to the floor as the hole for the shifter is in the wrong place.
So you need to find a pan for a M5OD as a bolt in. Now if you can only find one of the others you will need to make changes so the shifter will fit.

The outline in your truck on the floor will match up with it perfect. My truck was a column shift originally. I had to take an angle grinder and cut a hole in my floor. Easy job. Just make sure nothing flammable is around when cutting, including the truck seat.

FYI the Ford WC T5 used in Mustangs also uses ATF.
If you have a 4x4 some transfer cases also use ATF

What did you use for vacuum line to the power booster when the power brake booster was installed? I have a breather and a PCV valve in the valve cover.
1. Can I tap off the 1/4 line going to the distributor?
2. Do I have to remove the PCV , plug the hole and use that 3/8 line to go direct to the booster?
PCV vacuum line
3. Or can I Tee off the PCV line and go to the booster?
Pcv removed.
Carpet removed. 5 speed poking thru floor.
What sealant should I use when installing the center floor plate to allow for the higher trans?
thank you in advance.
What did you use for vacuum line to the power booster when the power brake booster was installed? I have a breather and a PCV valve in the valve cover.
1. Can I tap off the 1/4 line going to the distributor? NO! It is not large enough and you cannot tap off any vacuum line for the brake booster.
2. Do I have to remove the PCV , plug the hole and use that 3/8 line to go direct to the booster? You need the PCV so you cant use it but you need a vacuum source of the same size.
The PCV looks to be going to the carb, check the intake manifold for a 3/8 vacuum source for the booster.
PCV vacuum line
3. Or can I Tee off the PCV line and go to the booster? You should not Tee off any vacuum hose for the brake booster as it needs full vacuum and you will not get that when you Tee the PCV hose.
There has to be a plug on the intake manifold to use for the booster

Do you have the pan and are you just going to place it over what you have there?
if so and the transmission clears what you have now just get a shifter boot to fit the stick.
Just so you know the factory used a foam "sponge" block on the top of the trans before the pan went on.
This kept the road noise down, fumes and dirt from getting in the cabin. I dont have it on my truck, just the rubber boot and don't get any of that, but wanted to say it.
What is the slot for, is the truck a 4x4?
Dave ----
this is the panel I’m installing. Picking it up this weekend. Came out of Mazda trans truck. Getting the crossmember at the same time.

No. that is a pan for an 2wd auto ( 3 on the tree).
The slot in the pic was cut by a previous owner when they installed the C4 shifter that i recently removed.
The one that came with my NP435 was in pretty bad shape, oily, dirty and falling apart, so I did not use it and I dont get any smells inside and the carpet keeps the road noise down, it is a truck after all

Dave ----
thanks.
thanks.
I used 1 1/4" wide part to seal the pan to the floor this way if I have to pull the pan I can.
But you can use any type os weather strip foam you find that you think will work. I dont think dirt & water get up that high, .well maybe dust, but you will most likely have something on the floor like a rubber mat or a rug so they will stop any thing from getting into the cab.
I will say if you can go with rug as that will stop a lot of the noise. I had 2 coats of bed liner on the top & bottom of the floor and when stones would hit the floor it sounded like gun shots before the carpet.
