Was poking around the engine valley to check on bunch work I did early this year (turbo pedestal etc) and noticed the EBVP piston rod was not connected to the door/flapper/valve. I changed it with complete pedestal and EBPV solenoid etc unit from Diesel O Rings.
The clip had disconnected from the arm. The arm must be pulling too far inwards and pulled the clip off of the flapper arm connection.
In my many attempts to get it back on, I lost the clip. OF course.
Until I get my hands on a new clip, should I use some mechanic's wire to tie the flapper open? In other words pull it out towards the passenger side (the position its in, in the pic below)?
They give you some lousy instruction on how to set the tension on the spring and set the length but maybe I didnt do it correctly.
It would probably be fine not wired, but the thought of it flapping around in there while I drove would drive me more crazy than normal so I'd probably wire it open.

Thing is I'm not sure which way is open vs closed and so I'm not sure which position to wire it.
I think that open position is where I have it in the picture with the flapper arm pulled towards the front of the motor or passenger.
When the engine is off, key off, and engine cold, is the solenoid in the closed position?

Mine doesn’t throw one.
If you do get a SES it shouldn’t impact the driving of the truck. I’d rather have the temporary SES than drive with the solenoid moving the disconnected arm. But that’s just me.
One curveball could be related to having an SES stored for smog testing etc if that’s a concern in your area.
Apparently it's been like that for some time .. disconnected.
How does that clip even stay on the arm.. is just friction. If the arm or the flapper linkage connection point got greasy it could slide off...
If I remember it should have a little nub that gets tight as it's going over the shaft. Then once it's over the hump it can't slide bake without a little force.
