The battery that came from the factory is a BXT-96R. The auto parts store listing says it doesn't fit.
With the VIN, Ford says that the correct battery is BXT-40R. The dealership quoted a price which was about 2/3 of the auto parts store. The auto parts store is selling Ford batteries at a 50% markup.
The dealership is charging $260 for the installation. I decided to do it myself
FIrst you have to remove everything connected to the throttle body. The intake hose, air filter, air box, EGR hose, and sensors.
The negative battery terminal is connected to a body ground, which is removed first. The positive terminal wire goes to the panel which holds the battery in the tray. This is also the electrical distribution panel, which is also removed to slide the battery in and out. The battery also has a securement tie down strap which keeps it from floating.
I can see why they want that much labor. It takes a lot of time. Not everything comes apart and reassembles with ease.
The only smart thing that I did was take the air filter out for cleaning. Luckily, I had a spare filter ready.
I'll keep watch tonight, for The RouxGaRoux. He goes by different aliases. Tomte. Nisse. Tonttu. If I see it, orders are to shoot first, and ask questions later. You guys can all rest well, knowing that I am on midnight watch. Nobody is breaking into your house to steal porridge from your children.
We'll be heading up to 5150's neighborhood in a bit to spend with family (who live in the Sunset area of the City).
The battery on our 2015 lasted 7 years too. I replaced it last year with a little bit bigger battery. It fit in the tray just fine, but the insulation blanket need to be cut in order to "wrap around"..
Batteries are different for everyone. Drive cycles and patterns could shorten battery life. Aftermarket batteries tend to be less reliable. Cheap batteries are usually bad, and fail before the warranty is over. Perfect so that you can get another cheap battery under the warranty. I used always do that. 2 cheap batteries for the price of one.
My personal experience is that InterState sells a good battery. Costco batteries are InterState. Sears DieHard was InterState.
It is surprising how long Ford Motor Company batteries last. Most battery warranties are less than 36 months. Some are only 24 months. Some less. Every new FoMoCo battery goes years past the warranty. I wonder if the retail MotorCraft is the same battery.
My battery story of the week is of the lame kind. A few months ago I had put new batteries in the truck. I hardly drive it these days and when I tried to get it smogged on Friday, it hadn't been driven far enough for the OBD-II parameters to be sufficiently satisfied for the computer to think I'm not belching any more smog than they deem appropriate. I've been driving the truck around since, and have satisfied the couple hundred mile threshold my smog guy prescribed. I honestly thought a 99 diesel wouldn't need the miles. On a side note, driving it so much has really charged the batteries well. I thought I had a starting problem, but it fires right up even when it's cold with new batteries AND a couple hundred miles on them.
Santa was kind to me. I got the Patrick Stewart memoir, Make It So. I also got Oppenheimer and the new Indy Jones movies, as well as Call of Duty - Modern Warfare III for my xbox. I got a chuckle when it called for a 168 GB update, as the first of 6 updates needed to play it.

Batteries are fickle. I’ve had them go 10 years and 2 years. The most difficult are on travel trailers, because it is too easy to forget about maintenance.
Have a peaceful day. I’m kinda thankful to be retired from Emergency Services with a FULL Moon on a major Holiday.
