I’m needing to pull the CCV doghouse soon because it’s leaking around the base.
Has anyone kept it routed in the intake path but added a catch can? Seems like a good idea to me. Keeps negative pressure on the crank case, but removes the lions share of the oil from the intake path.
Amazon catch cans are like $25 and the hose is like $15.
Some that have made the change, have changed back to stock configuration .
did they ever say why?
I see alot of people just venting to atmosphere, and I don’t really want to do that because in my experience it leads to a new drip point which I’m trying to stop.
I don't thin the cheapo Amazon ones will flow enough. I know mishimoto makes a high flow one made specifically for diesels. I've though about running it inline like you say.
I stumbled into one of those Mann Hummel Provent 200 ccv things a long while back. It is the same thing BD diesel sells but at a significantly lower insult price. I lost one of the adapters that couple the in/out of the filter to the intake when I had things apart so I haven't been running it.
In the time I have had it, I'd say it flows enough to not cause any problems in my application. In the time I've not been using it, the soggy boots are back but otherwise no difference in operation I can tell.
There are good arguments against open venting and many of us won't do it.
The argument of "like IH designed" is a poor argument, they did what was cheaper/easier until it became illegal, like many of the changes we see with engines. If you truly wanted to follow the path of "like IH designed in the beginning" you wouldn't have made any of the other mods you've made.
