Exclamation 2020 F450 w/ Blind Side Detector, bulb out $1500

Have a 2020 F450 Lariat with Blind Side Detector. Left tail light running lamp is out, brake & flasher work ok. Checked with dealer, said it’s LED, and entire lens assembly must be replaced, cost $1500 just for the assembly. Anyone know of another option, possibly a place that can check & replace the diode if faulty?

Following. If this is the case, this is just poor PP engineering.

Quick google search showed several places you can send them in to. I have no knowledge of these places but might be worth checking out.

Welcome to the joys of LEDs. No longer can you replace a $10 bulb…now you have to replace the whole thing.

Is there a way to install standard tail light housings & turn off this feature in Forescan?

I saw a Ford Tech Makuloco video on this. Apparently the taillight serves as a network hub for many other vehicle functions. That's why they cost so much. Also why XL and XLT trims are getting popular again.

For those worried about it I guess Ford did them a favor by using halogen taillights '23+ KR and below haha.

If I recall correctly, that issue on that 150 came from water entering the wiring, causing corrosion, and creating a short. Not specifically because it was LED. The electrical systems on these trucks in general are so intertwined that issues like that are possible regardless of lighting type. A halogen taillamp would also be an a network shared by many other systems and modules, and if water got in, as far as I know, it could create a similar set of symptoms.

Here is another option. Never used them but a youtuber does all the time. Ford is not specifically listed but I think its worth a call to find out..
