Found this 71 for sale near the house and had to go look. After seeing how ruff it was I wasn’t going to buy it. But after checking it over I had to have it. Only reason I pulled the trigger is the interior, dash shows 25k miles and i almost believe it. The clutch pedal assembly is very tight and still has all the factory bushings and springs. The steering column is also very tight still has cargo light switch ****. First one I have seen still intact.
The body and the frame are in bad condition and would take a lot to repair. But truck runs and drives great, steering and trans are tight. My 68 needs drive shafts and transfer case is sloppy. I figured I can’t get new drive shafts made for what they were asking for the truck. So I handed over the cash and drug it home.
From your pictures other than the grille and some rot on the right rear bed side. I don't see to much wrong .Maybe post some more pictures and let us see.
At some point the front clip was swapped form a 68 or 69. Hood appears to be original along with the rest of the body. I have never seen one rust so bad every thing behind the cab is shot. Only thing holding bedsides on is tailgate.
Po owner said it was a 390 like usual, but it appears to be original engine. I prefer this anyway truck still retains the rear sump pan and oil filter adapter. In my experience most 390 swaps no one bothered to swap over the 4x4 spec parts. Engine runs good and appears mostly original.
