Tranny choice

I am looking to upgrade from a gas to a diesel. I pull a 10,000 # goosneck through the hills and am planning longer trips once I get a new truck. How is the new auto tranny for pulling? reliability? Versus the 6 spd. any input appreciated. Thanks.

I think Ford actually did it right, with the auto, I think they may steal the title from allison with this one.

I also cast my vote for the Auto. This is the first auto that I have had in any truck (5 of them) and I love it. Tows great.

I towed a 32' fiver 'bout 7k with '03 6.0. The tranny was super. I even use it in town when traffic is heavy. The downshifting and deceleration make it way easier in the gridlock I occasionally run into.
