C6 trannys.

Hi, Im not too familiar with Fords auto trannys. Im lookin at a truck with a 302 and a C6. Are those trannys decent? Ive always had manual trannys in everything. The truck has a new C6 in it. It sits on 39s with 5.13 gears too if that has anyhting to do with it. It wont be driven that much. Possibly pull a small trailer from time to time. Am I gonna have problems with the tranny if i get that?

C6 is a strong trans, & has been out for years. Fairly inexpensive compared to the later OD transmissions. If it was done right, it will be the least of your worries. Automatics soak up a bit more power than manuals, and the C6 soaks up a bit more than many other automatics. If you are going bracket racing, you need to worry about that, but otherwise, like I said, the least of you worries.

If you are going to tow anything, consider a trans cooler.If it doesn't have one already) Send the fluid to the aftermarket cooler first, then to the stocker in the radiator, then back to the trans. That way your trans fluid stays at the right temp and doesn't run too cold in light load cold weather situations.

Good luck.

Couldn`t agree more. I have a C6 in my F250, would recommend it to anybody.

What year is this truck w/a 302/C6?

Have you verified it actually is a C6?

The reason I ask is, no F100 or F150 w/a 302 came with a C6 till 1978, all prior years used C4's.

1978/79, both the C4 & C6 were available with the 302.

C6 = 17 transmission pan bolt holes.

C4 = 11 transmission pan bolt holes.

If a 1969/77 F100 or 1975/77 F150 w/a 302 has a C6 now, it wasn't there originally.
