Front Tranny Seal

I just bought a new truck, 86 F350 4x4 c6. The front seal to the tranny is leaking. Once the motor or tranny is out, how hard is that to put in? I still haven't decided whether I'm going to pull the motor or tranny, I'm leaning toward the motor, I think that would be easier than pulling tranny and transfer case.

ive pulled both an in my opinion pullin the t case an trans is easier

It isn't that big a deal to pull the trans and t-case down, no worse than pulling a 1200 pound motor.... also don't have rusty exhaust bolts to deal with...

For sure pulling the trans is easier. The seal is like a wheel bearing seal, it's a rubber seal with a metal surround that you drive in with a hammer. It goes in the trans pump.

on the C-6 the pump has an oring seal around the outer edge of the pump body and they are very prone to leaking with age
the pump has to be removed to replace it
if you dont have experience with this type of repair i would take the trans to a shop and have teh pump resealed
