I am going to have a crate engine put in my truck. The truck is a 1990 f-150 5.0/302 4x4 short wheelbase. The tranny is a E4od. I was going to have the person pulling it to pull the tranny with it. That should be less work for them..... and then i will take the tranny to a tranny shop and have it rebuilt. Bring it back and have him put it all back. What do you think just the pulling and putting the new engine in should cost? Thanks
Having Jasper 5.8L being put in mine as we speak and it is going to cost me 3800 with new manifolds and cross over exhust pipe. Jasper crated is around 2100 rest is labor. I also priced a E40D rebuilt tranny and it was more than the motor not including a rebuilt transfer case. Guess that will be next year. Go to thier web site and it will give ya a pretty good idea on cost of the motor.
why not just buy a TCI tranny, its alot cheaper and you can still keep your tranny to get rebuilt at a later date, its like $2500 for the 4x4 performance tranny
I know of several places that I can get A4od rebuilt for around $800.00 if out of truck . I have run and punished (plow snow tow trailer)these rebuild and they are fine.
Its not easier to pull trans with motor. First of all you have to remove transfer case shafts cross members lines. Other than getting trans rebuilt (dose it need it?) As for motor Install I just swapped rebuilt motor and trans in around 14 hrs. Of course its the 4 th one Ive doné so know what needs done. Thats removing ,swapping oil pan , new exhaust manifolds. intake and alt /PS bracets on to new motor and install . A local Local guy quoted install for $450-600 plus gasket kit. good luck
