ATF choice

I just had the radiator on my 1976 F350 supercab, 460/C6 repaired and it looks like I did not secure the trans cooler lines well enough to prevent leakage. Looks like I've lost about 1-1/2 qts. The ATF currently in the trans is Valvoline Dexron II-Mercon. Is it okay to replace the lost ATF with Valvoline Dexron III/IV -Mercon? I've not found anyone near me selling DexronII-Mercon. Also, is there a shelf life for ATF?

You'll be fine. If I have a unopened bottle, I use it. I'm still using DexIII/Merc I've had since it came out.
