UPDATE! I had it towed home. The guy was invested in his position that the HPOP was bad and had to be replaced before the intermittent no start issue could even be found. They also told me; I would be surprised at how many times that has happened to 7.3s while at his shop.
I installed a new FoMoCo IPR and fired right up as per normal. There is a slight amount of oil inside the connector for the ICP, so I am going to replace the ICP, and keeping the old one in a baggy in the toolbox. I think it is Riff Raff that sells International ICPs, any thoughts on Ford vs International as a replacement?

Fingers crossed on my intermittent No Start gremlin.

I have not downloaded Forescan yet, but am going to ditch my Torque Pro.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment, all were very much appreciated.

Ron

With intermittent faults, data is important. FORScan will help youout a lot once you have got it downloaded and running. If ever there is a reason to get an Android head unit, being able to install FORScan to constantly log data is one of the best. You will need logs of both running and malfunction conditions. Sous' headunit thread will give you some ideas.

Not a real likely scenario, IMO because of the absence of codes stored, but maybe it's the PCM relay not turning on?
Again, I'm just guessing here.
An old story. Back in the 80's we had a Dodge van that would randomly just die. Worked for a large international construction company so we had a mechanic shop... so on numerous occasions they tried to find out what was going on. On a trip to Lake Charles, LA.... it died while in bumper to bumper traffic due to road construction on the Atchafalaya Basin, Bridge, which is 18 miles long across a swamp, at like 11:00PM. The whole family was on this trip, it was a nightmare... my spouse went nuts ! All we could do was wait on hopefully a Trooper to stop to help us. About 30-45 minutes in, I turned the switch and it cranked right up. Drove on to Lake Charles.... then drove 375 miles back home with no problems. At work, we were all looking at the vehicle again. A friend walks in.... listens.... and says, I know EXACTLY what's wrong with it. He reaches over, pulls on the battery ground.... sparks fly everywhere. Ground wire on the block was loose. WTH !!! Never had another problem with that vehicle.

So with that background.... I'd pull off and clean every ground on the truck. For sure the main ground on starter wiring and the grounds close to PCM.

Just my thoughts...

Ron, good to hear the truck is back in your possession.

FTN is right about what the data log FORScan is capable of providing. As you familiarize yourself with FORScan, please refer back to post #4 and the Q&A link there. BWST did a really good job at walking us through setup and use.

As for the Android head unit, I really like mine and the utility it provides. Although, if I knew I didn't need the dual BT receivers, I may have selected a different unit. It was priced right and does everything I need it to, but someone may not be in the same usage situation that I am in.

Keep us updated and hopefully we will find the issue soon.

To build on what MoBill122 said, don't be afraid to add grounds also. I added grounds to my truck to connect each major component (like the transmission, tcase, alternator, batteries etc etc) to the frame electrically. Just don't bolt the ground cable to rotating components like the driveshaft.

Glad you got it home and running without wasting money on an unneeded HPOP.

I hope your intermitant issue is resolved.

I didn't notice, was the fuel pressure ever verified? I have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge mounted on my fuel filter housing.
My next truck I will install an electrical sender and have a gauge I can see from inside.

I gotta say, guess I’m a jerk because I would have changed the IPR in their parking lot then drove the “needs a HPOP due to 0 pressure” truck off the lot to prove a point.

Glad it’s home and running currently.

I think your new ICP is a good idea. Along with all the ground recommendations from folks.

International and FoMoCo are the exact same sensor, just different bags. So there is no difference between them. Over the years I have even seen international ICP sensors still in there international bag, part number white labeled over and in a Ford bag direct from my dealer

Back when I was still in high school, a friend of mine bought a car with a "seized engine". Paid the cash for the car. While the car was still sitting in seller's driveway, he changed the starter motor that was jammed up against the ring gear on the flywheel and then proceeded to do several full throttle runs back and forth in front of the seller's house.

That’ll teach people to jump to conclusions.

My first F250 back when I was about 21 and newly married.

Went to look at a non-running truck just a few miles up the road from us. He’d worked on some things but it would no longer crank. Deal was made with the guy and we went back to get Dad’s truck to tow-rope it home.

Told Dad I knew what was wrong but didn’t want to fix it in front of the guy and insult him.
He had wired up the starter solenoid with all the interior power wires on the starter side. Got it home, swapped the wires, and fired it up.

There was plenty more to tinker with though. For example: 1 shock fully mounted, 1 hanging from the top mount, 1 hanging from the bottom, and 1 in the bed of the truck.

Turned out to be a good truck. Used it until we had our second kid and needed an extended cab. And that would be where I got into the 7.3 world with a 315k OBS.
