Need some help from the wise. Ive had 2 FE starter motors act up this week and I have no clue what to do with them. They buzz when power is applied but will work correctly when the bendix cap is removed and the bendix is depressed slightly. The drive gear is clean and free of debris and the brushes are in good shape.
My battery is confirmed hot 800CCA. The magnetic field will not overpower the spring for some reason.
Is there a way to shim the bendix down closer to the starters armature or is this a sign of a needed replacement? TIA
Did you ever try tapping on it with a hammer to see if it would take off ?
Yes, i also completely disassembled them with no luck. Whatever the magnetic field is that is generated doesn't seem to be strong enough to engage the bendix
I'm certain I have something wrong. I know the gasket on the cover acts as a shim that presses the bendix to a certain depth.
