'65 F250 w/ 352. Starter drags terribly; now won't turn over no matter how much jumping I do. Replaced everything from battery down with new, battery is good. It has to be the starter. It's slated to get headers so I am wondering what starter should I get knowing that.
Suggestions please.
Edit: I should add that the starter in the truck I rebuilt at least 25 years ago. I want a new starter, not rebuilt.
What 25 year is not good enough for you
Sorry had to do it.
I dont know but if going with headers I would look for a mini type starter to get it away from the heat.
I have used https://www.robbmcperformance.com/
Starter on my AMC drag car and and loved it as you can clock it ANYWHERE
Unlike some where you can only turn it to get the bolts back in the body & flange that is not clock ANYWHERE.
I dont know if they make one for your motor / trans setup.
And yes they are a little more $$ but they are built in the USA and the service is top notch if needed.

I've had one of these for 8 years...30,000 miles...and it works well. They're smaller than a factory starter which may help with headers. My engine is a stroker FE, btw.
....also using a powermaster high torque compact starter for a few years with good success. Small enough to clear headers and even install a thermo wrap if you want.
Big Red got a starter. I was pressed for time and got a Pure Energy starter from RA( chinese made). Under $100 and got here in 2 days. Works great. I need to haul sheetrock and now I'm in business. Will accept that I will have to reevaluate when the headers go on. Powermaster will be the choice if it happens.
