I have one of the Duracell’s in one car and some from Tractor supply in the truck. IIRC they have a better warranty than the Walmart batteries but I am not sure. They crank over well and have about 3-4 years on them currently. I like the AGM Duracell since there are also several Sam’s clubs to choose from if I have a problem. Location has a lot to do with it. With it being a ranch truck I would just find something close so you can swap out if they fail.
I was going to get a set of CAT batteries until SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED told me the truck was required for the Greensboro Garden Club tomorrow. So long story short, off to Walmart and $139 X 2 later I have a new set of MAXX series 65 850CCA in the truck. I cleaned and painted all the items listed in the posts above so I'm set for a little while.
Thanks for the options and cuss and discuss of same.
Time for a beer or two and some fireworks ( I'll count my fingers in the morning).

I went to Walmart and bought a pair of the biggest batteries they have,
850 CCA and they come with a 3 Year Warranty.
and Priced way lower than anyone else.
I've had those in mine for about 8 months now and they seem to work well. About $250 for both of them after the core charge credit for the old ones so a pretty sharp deal IMO. Old pair of Interstates lasted about 5.5 years.
Northstar and Odyssey Extreme AGM are some of the best batteries for our trucks. They don't cost an arm and a leg, but pretty close to it now post COVID.
I have been let down too many times by flooded lead acid batteries, but if I were to get another FLA battery for the truck, it would be a CAT.
I hope your holiday weekend is a great one!
I don't think the Northstars even exist any longer. Didn't they get re-acquired and rolled back into Odyssey/Enersys a few years ago? The Batteries+Blubs "X2 Power" battery used to have the Northstar logo down in the corner but now they no longer do either but you can see it's just a rebadged Odyssey Extreme. (Same 4 year warranty on both.)
Wish I'd have known a local battery distributor just a few miles down the road could have sold me a pair of Odysseys and I probably would have talked myself into eating the bill. I do not like how the FLA batteries seep and sweat out the top vents in the summer and a dual purpose AGM would be more ideal for what I do when parking overnight in truck stops with the engine off. But the Walmarts start the engine fine so now it's definitely more of a want than a need.
Doing an online price check, Walmart currently is asking $159.84 for an Everstart brand Group 65 850 amp battery.
Costco price is $119.99 and it's Interstate brand.
no Costco here, we have a Sam's Club..
the 1st thing I noticed along with the cheaper price tag, CCA = 650 which is sub-standard for a 65N battery... finding a Sam's Club in Podunk Union, NoWhereland is impossible....
even in the tiny town of Price, Utah where I got stranded last July, 2022; I was able to buy two Walmart 65N 850 CCA batteries with a 3 year Warranty.
I also run Wal-Mart EverStart batteries in my vehicles. I have run NAPA and DieHard, but Wal-Mart currently has the best price for comparable batteries that I can find. And if you have to replace one under warranty, Wal-Marts are easy to find.
I've run Odyssey on motorcycles and had mixed results, one lasted 10+ years on a 650 single, another only 3 years on a 92ci twin. On a bike, I'd run Odyssey again, but for an auto... I can't justify the cost for Odyssey over Wal-Mart's EverStart product line. I get 4-5 years our of most auto FLA batteries in North Carolina.
Hard to justify the cost for most applications where a dual purpose battery is not needed. These suckers are anywhere from $350-400 apiece nowadays. Like everything else the price has gone up significantly.
Big factor for me is Walmarts are everywhere. Batteries die on the road? Solution not far away.
But last time I took a dead battery (Subaru application) to Walmart they had a strict policy. A dead battery must be charged on their machine to prove it cannot take a charge before warranty replacement. To my surprise (I tried to charge it on my old school Sears charger) the Walmart charge held. One the one hand that's great, I got my battery fully charged for free. But on the other hand, that process took 24 hours. That can mess with your schedule.
Daily monitoring of the electrical system with a plug in meter and catching a charging or storage problem before it goes totally out is mandatory with these trucks. Load testing batteries every now and then is a good idea as well. We have found the electrical system gives you early signs, if you are monitoring it, that a problem is developing.
My Deka Penn batteries from 2017 started giving me issues a few months back so I stuck them on the DC welder and shook off the sulfates and then stuck them on the recovery charger for a few days and they are now back to 90% SOH testing the MCA, good enough for me. Nice strong start once again. Also good to keep an eye on the water in those "non-maintenance" batteries.

Really? I suppose this varies by store. I take mine in and it's no questions asked, get you 2 new ones.

I agree on Walmart being "everywhere",
the requirement to put it on Charge before Warranty replacement?
don't recall having that experience.
suppose it is up to the store manager?
IF,
I were on the road away from home, I would severely protest on that, and make them pay for the Hilton Suites.
I put a pair of the Odessey Extreme batteries on my last truck, they were still doing fine when I sold it several years later to a guy who only uses it to tow his drag car to the track maybe once a month, they're still working fine.
So it was the obvious choice for my F550 Fontaine when the day arrived that it didn't start without help. The price has increased but the peace of mind & as @Y2KW57 says it's much easier on our aging bodies not having to heave them in & out every couple of years or possibly more frequently if they fail under warranty.
Sometimes you get what you pay for....
