Erratic oil temp readings.

06 f250 stock. Oil cooler maybe year old. Been driving a lot for work and this code set second time for eot/ ect differential. Got laptop scanner w me on road and the eot is all over the place. 212 and back down to lower than ect temps and back up again.

assuming this sensor cropping out but never seen anything like it.

Two things, first you can swap the sensor with the coolant temp sensor (they are the same) to see if the fluctuations follows the sensor. Second if the oil temp still fluctuates it may be the pigtail.

It's not that the EOT gets lower, it is to see if the issue follows the sensor.

no, I get the purpose. I’m saying don’t think it’s physically possible for the oil to be lower than coolant. Why it has to be sensor or pigtail. I’ll give er a shot.

If the oil temp is what seems out of place, I would look there first. Many times, you can see the heat and oil damage to the connector itself.

Temperature sending unit connector / pigtail (EOT, ECT, IAT2): Part # AP0056 (Alliant Power)

https://www.xtremediesel.com/alliant...pigtail-ap0056

https://prosourcediesel.com/shop/bra...ature-pigtail/

NOTE: Ford does not sell that connector.

Oil and Coolant Temperature sending unit (EOT, ECT sensor): 3C3Z-10884-AA

I had the same thing happen, but it was my coolant temperature. The sensor and the pigtail is the same for the oil temp and coolant temp.

My problem is rodents had chewed up the 4 wire pigtail going to the EGR valve. Once I fixed that, I don't have the temp swings any more. Obviously the EGR valve pigtail had an impact on the coolant sensor. I was thinking it affected the 5V RefV, but that would have impacted more than just the coolant sensor. Oh well.

So, its either the sensor, the pigtail, or some other bad wiring issue. I'd check for a wiring issue first.
