I just ordered one of these to go in the beast. I'm planning to upgrade power soon, but I wanted some baselines before hand (it's the engineer in me). Anyway, since it has the temperature sensor and my truck is a manual, I was thinking either coolant or oil temperature. Obviously, oil is a better one to monitor, but I couldn't think of where to tap in for the sensor. So, has anyone ever installed an oil temperature sensor, and if so, where? Thanks.

I'm not sure where you could put an oil temp sensor Nick. It should be after the oil cooler, and you can't remove the factory oil temp sensor cause it has to report to the PCM. I'll look tomorrow at one of the engines in my shop and see if I can see a place for one and let you know if i find anything.

Thanks. I'll do some digging. Maybe I'll just end up tapping the coolant if I/we can't come up with something.
I'd go with engine temp, and use the spot where the sender is for the lame OEM dash gauge. You can always get an Interceptor or other device that communicates with the PCM for oil temp.

Yeah, that would be easy enough to do with a T fitting. Or just unplug the crappy dash one and leave it hang (actually had to do that on the Ranger since it was already broken).
There is a plug in the oil filter adapter I used for the oil temp gauge in the 97. It is just above the filter IIRR. It is the brass plug in this pic. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2003-7-3L-Powerstroke-Diesel-OEM-Ford-Oil-Cooler-Filter-Adaptor-F81Z6881BA-/231134267131?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d0ad06fb&vxp=mtr#ht_370wt_610
