I was driving down the freeway this morning and all of the sudden my oil temp started jumping around really quickly and now it has dropped to about 165 with coolant temp at 190. I am guessing the temp sensor has likely gone bad. Anything else I should check first, I just can't imagine my oil is actually only 165 degrees going down the freeway.
Only way your oil will be colder than your coolant is if the thermostat is stuck or you have a BPD air-oil cooler. But with your jumping erratic temperature i would recommend check the pigtail/connector and the sensor itself. Sensors are cheap
Now all of the sudden after a couple restarts of the motor and jiggling the harness its reading over 190 again, so definitely something sensor or harness related.
If I recall, someone found a chaffed wire on the oil temp sensor a few years ago. He found it a few inches into the harness from the sensor. By the way, your ECT sensor and EOT sensors are the same and can be swapped for testing.
