I just added everything to cart. For an entire AC system, lines, compressor, cycle switch, office tube, dryer, o rings, condenser, evaporator. It’s $600 which makes sense. But shipping is $68! Where can I get these same things for similar prices not from Rockauto?

Ebay, look for one of the big AC warehouses in TX
Look for a compressor kit, then buy a condenser and lines / hoses
I look at the pictures to figure out which hoses I need to order

Just take your part numbers from RA and start googling them see if you can find free shipping. When it hit's 100°f outdoors that 68$ will be worth it to get it all from 1 vendor. Shipping rates are extremely high now days with the cost of fuel.

Autozone offers free freight from their website and 20% off purchase if spending over $125 I think.

Four Seasons stuff tends to be better to me.

Are you going to run that 88 style compressor or the 89+?

I’ll see what AutoZone sells stuff for. I forgot you mentioned 89+ is better I was filtering it to my truck. I’ll look at the 89+ components. Is it all the same, bolt on or just the compressor?
I looked back at the post, and you said just compressor and lines. What about evaporator and condenser?

Yes bolts on last time I did it. Use 89 comp and line set. 87-93 condenser same, get small tube or parallel flow. Dryer and evap same

Just did this last week on pal's '89.

May as well do a 130A 3G swap while in there.

93 F-150 5.0

I replaced my compressor, accumulator, and suction line/attached to manifold/high pressure discharge line. Flushed evaporator and condenser. Vacuumed it down. Stayed at 29’ overnight. No leaks. Added pag oil and 134a. Installed red orfice tube. (Compressor had stopped working, no noise)
it now Super cools excellent! after i was done i checked the gauges and they were perfect readings as several charts i read from this forum and google. I did everything slow and calm and double checked. O rings replaced and oil on them etc.

BUT (A day later i ran errands and stopped at the Thriftstore’s with my dog in the truck!,). At idle for awhile, 30+ minutes, the truck heated up to 80’! Now what? Static pressure is equal. Its 4:06pm here in Gulf Breeze, FL, so as it cools down im going to see what the gauges read.
im doing this just for my big dogs. They go everywhere with. Yes, just for the dogs...

oh i read today that the liquid line connecting to evaporator inlet line, where orfice tube is located, is supposed to have two orings???

is there no one that can prove whether orfice tube is blue or red????!’!! 93 F-150 5.0 extended cab using 134a. Some say due to the molecular change or something, the newer 134a should be red. With the old R12, it was blue. Now using red. I’ll be back. This might help that guy cause he might run into the same issue. I just did this in the last week. Rejoiced a little early haha

Blue was used with R12, 134A uses red. My '92 suffered the Black Death. Swapped everything but the condenser. Should have since the newer condensers are meant for R134A. Cools great when driving, but warms when idling.

Be sure the fan clutch, as mentioned, is working correctly. There are 2 different types of clutches used. Standard duty, and Heavy Duty.Be sure it's the thicker clutch as the standard is thinner and won't cool as well when the AC is in use.

So will the heavy duty fit in my 5.0? It says heavy duty is for 5.8 I will buy the heavy duty if it fits. The truck has to be cool at idle for the dogs. We are hitting 90 (feels like temp).

im waiting for the rain to stop to run the truck to operating temp. Turn it off and see how the fan blades spin. Also see if the fan kicks on immediately or after several minutes.

Engaged is locked and disengaged is unlocked. The word locked throws me off.

And check the ac gauges before I turn it off.

And she if all blower settings 1-4 blow different strength air. I want to see if there is a definite diff between setting 3 to 4. The blower motor connection from harness to blower motor wa all dried and cracked but it’s connection seemed tight. I need a new connector but hv temporarily taped it. See video in next reply. Its on other phone

edit: video to long. Here are pics

Yes, the heavy/extreme duty will fit the 5.0. I have (2) 302's and (1) 351. All 3 have the heavy duty clutch fan Along with 7 blade steel fans. The 5 blade steel fans were found in earlier models, then sometime, maybe with R134a, Ford went with 7 blade steel fans.

Turn truck on. The ac clutched engaged immediately and fan started immediately (per glass thermometer temp underneath hood near engine was 78’), the fan noise sounds normal it doesn’t sound like it’s roaring like a plane. Thermostat was not open yet.

After I tried taping the blower motor connector somewhat bc it literally fell apart being dry from hot sun (see above pics), the blower motor is now making a noise (not super loud, w engine going I could barely hear it.) and the airflow out of the vents has definitely gone down on settings 1-4. so I probably need to start by getting a new blower motor connector right?, it was blowing better before I kind of took switch apart because all those pieces fell off of it. Get new connector and see how blower motor runs? Before I go replace it.

Turned truck of. Fan blades turn like normal. The same as before I turned the truck on. I firmly grabbed blades and there was a slight back and forward movement. There was no up and down movement.

How can u tell if fan clutch is engaged. Does that just mean if fan runs, fan clutch is engaged. If fan is not running fan clutch it disengaged. The word locked and unlocked throw me off. Please tell me what to do

edit: No is answer, it has to do w the 2 different speeds the fan can run.

You did or did not get the truck up to temperature? When the engine is hot, the fan should be hard to turn by hand if the clutch is working. It should not be the same as a cold engine.

Truck was up to temperature and hot.
Turned truck off moved radiator fan blades in circle and they moved the same as before I started the truck when truck was cold.

When I started the truck (cold) , the radiator fan came on immediately and stayed on. Ac was on the entire time I waited for the truck to warm up
