Just found out I need to yank the engine and replace or rebuild it (crank is seized and will not turn by hand with plugs out, trans in neutral). To pull the engine, where are the best places on the block/engine to attach the cherry picker chains?
Thanks for the knowledge everyone!
Welcome to FTE, if I had a picture I would share it, but I'm not one that usually documents what I'm doing... when I'm pulling a 6 out, I use a bolt in the front of the head on the dr side, and one of the exh/intake bolts on the rear of the engine on the pass side, I try to use one piece of chain for the engine, then hook that on the hoist hook with a bolt through to keep it from tilting/sliding front to rear, you may have to adjust that bolt in the chain to bring the nose up or down once you start lifting it.
Just lifted my 300 out this past weekend with this setup. Everything went smoothly and held. A few different grade 8 bolt sizes for the different points but all common hardware. Also a 50 dollar spreader from Harbor Freight made this a lot smoother. Only 15-20 bucks more than the chain was going to cost me.
Thanks hehateme36!!
That is perfect. I really appreciate the pics and advice on the load spreader from HF. I should be able to take care of this in the next few weekends. Cheers!
