Engine Swap

Does anyone out there know if I could bolt a stock 3 speed trans in a 1959 F-100(truck came with a 223 inline 6)to a replacement 300 inline 6 engine from a 1986? The bellhousing on the 300 was bolted to a 4 speed with OD.
Will the old bellhousing bolt to the 300 or will the new belhousing bolt to the old 3 speed trans? Thanks

As far as I know the bellhousings are not interchangable. However, the trannys MAY be, the easiest way to check would be to match the bolt pattern of the trans to the bellhousing on the 300 you have.

Thanks, I was hoping someone would know about the trans. I'd have to pull the other guy's trans to check before I bought the engine from him. That is my problem.
