Removing a 300

I am looking to pull my engine its a 82 F100. What is the best way to pick up the engine? I have a 2000 lb crane but I am not sure where to attach the crane. Can anyone give me some tips on what they have done?

let harte3 go read all he wants, i will help you. you should have a lift plate on the manifold side towards the front. if you don't have one you can get one at a junk yard for a couple of dollars. bolt it to the passenger side at the front of the engine. good luck.
now, harte3 go read and annoy someone else.............

If you're going to be rude and try to give advice, at least give correct advice.
Easiest way on a carbed 300 is to use the second manifold bolt back from the carb, and the coil mount hole. String a chain between these two points, and the engine will lift level.
If you are pulling the tranny also, use the same intake bolt and the upper left (driver's side) bellhousing bolt, the engine and tranny will lift level.
Lifting by just the intake side will tilt the engine and make it very difficult to line up for re-installation.

Jared, read harte3 initial response to a man asking for help, then decide who is rude. the thread was posted by a "freshman user," what does that mean to you; would you send someone to read something or try to help the man. if i offended you, i apologize to you, just think how freshman user felt when he was asking for help.
now, in regards to proving answers to removing the engine, there are many ways to tackle it and yours is just one way, not the only way. from my experience the factory lift bracket on the manifold side has always worked for me and i have not had to use chains and other bolt locations.
freshman user: good luck man, not all using this forum are short in their responses and most of us care that you get the information you need. good luck.

Al - do you have pictures of the device you're talking about? I don't understand what you mean by the factory lift bracket. I didn't see anything like that when I removed my stock manifolds on my 300. It doesn't make sense to me to lift it from just the manifold because that would leave the engine completely lopsided and I would think it would topple over. When I installed headers on my 300, I had to remove the passenger side motor mount during installation and I had to hold that side of the motor up with my cherry picker - as soon as the mount popped free and the cherry picker took up the load, I could really tell the weight of just pulling up on one side. Also, because the manifolds aren't bolted on like traditional manifolds - instead they are clamped against the motor by the ears of the runners with thick washers, it's not a good idea to put all the weight of the engine against the manifolds. I just don't see how you can lift an engine using only one side. Jared's method is the best way to do it in my opinion.

We were discussing this topic just a week or two ago, that's why Harte3 happened to mention the search. The more information the OP can find, the better for him.

the lifting bracket came on my '92 300 and there were no balancing issues when i took my engine out, it balanced perfectly and was on the manifold side. this whole thing started when a thread was started by someone wanting information and harte3 wouldn't take the time to explain anything, which raised my heart rate. then we have everyone upset because one solution was proposed. do you know of any perfect way to do anything and if it is right for one is it absolutely right for another. this is a waste of time, i hope the guy who posted first gives up the forum and finds others who want to help him vs tell him to go read past postings. enough..........

you shouldn't have too much a problem, unless your a/c works and that will really be in the way.
take the time to take the radiator completely out and put in a safe place.
your lucky its a 6 cyl, makes things much easier

al ballard:

There is a wealth of information on this site and within two minutes using "Pulling engine" as a search term this came up https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...e.html...along with several threads about the same subject.

Now if you or anyone else can't take two minutes to further your education with the tons of information that is at your finger tips, that tells me more than I need to know about you. The advice I gave yukgoon was valid, is valid and will continue to be valid regardless of your taking an erroneous and pseudo-offense at it.

As that famous detective Dirty Harry once asked: "May I make a suggestion?"

Post the link and THEN advise the new user about the search function, all in one post.

Frankly, I don't know why anyone would remove a 300, they last forever and outpower every other engine ever mentioned on this site.

pictures of factory engine lift brackets

if you would like pictures of the factory engine lift brackets please email me at al@thecanoncityqueenanne.com. once again, if you use these brackets, readily available at any salvage yard, the effort is very easy; or you can go through all kinds of concepts, ideas and things that work for you, or research every posting and spend a lot of time. as for me, i will go with the factory design lift brackets, get the job done and move on.
