04 6.0

Hi Guys
I have a 2004 6.0
I have a problem with the waste gate I think
When i am driving it feels like the boost is not there when it acts up it will feel like the gate is opening when it needs boost. When it does it black puffs of smoke will come out of the exhaust

You might try to find the waste gate before you say you have an issue with it (ie you do not have one).

Your telling me I do not have a waste gate on my 04
Could it be the soleniod

Yeah - sorry .... I couldn't resist.

The 6.0's have variable-vane technology. The solenoid operates the inlet guide vanes on the turbine side of the turbo. This happens in place of a waste gate.

You could have one of a half dozen issues. We really need to see a deep scan for codes. ALSO, we need to know where your ICP sensor is located (ie if your '04 has an '03 engine).

I also noticed that
1 it has no power
2 it revs higher before it will shift as well

ICP sensor behind the turbo?

You need a scan tool - one that does a deep scan for codes. With a scan tool, the first thing to do is to look at EBP_G, MAP, and Baro at KOEO.

ForScan full version or ForScan Lite are the way to go. TorquePro is good for Android devices.

With the ICP sensor I thought if that was bad it will no t start
I will have to inquire on a scanner

I am asking about the ICP sensor location so that I can determine what year engine you have ..................

As I indicated above, the '04 trucks can have EITHER an '03 engine or an '04 engine.

The turbo is controlled differently depending on which engine is in it ...........

LMAO - we went through this in the engine model 3 years ago (laughing more at me than you)!

So you should have an active EBP PID. Comparing EBP, MAP, and Baro at KOEO is the next step (along with codes).

From the old thread, the turbo does not sound very old, so maybe you can get this resolved fairly inexpensively!

Yes your right we did speak then
Issue was EGR cooler was bad

I do have paperwork on the turbo was changed at 30000

A "simple" check would be to inspect all the boots in the intercooler system for cracks. You may need to really squeeze and manipulate them to find it
Also check that the clamps are no broken. Happened to a buddy of mine, it just gave out and eventually fell off.

Also, check the MAP sensor hose - make sure it is not plugged up, not torn, and that the nipple on the intake manifold that it attaches to is not plugged up.
