White smoke when cold

Hi guys.

I have an 04 6.0. When it starts cold it will blow white smoke for awhile then goes away. Anti freeze does get low.
Engine runs fine
not sure of problem.

Early or late 04 (ie where is your ICP sensor located)?

Still have the EGR system intact?

The truck was built in March of 04.
The icp sensor is in the front right valve cover.
The truck has 54000 on it

The truck is pretty much all original. It was a township vehicle.
I know the hpop was changed and the turbo.

Sounds like you might need to replace the EGR cooler. Mine failed at 42000 about 3 months ago. It started with steam. (White "smoke")

Let also add that even if the EGR cooler is not ""bad" It will be eventually. I thought I could wait until I had more miles on it.
Miles had nothing to do with it.

Probably needs an oil cooler in it also, as that's usually the root cause of EGR cooler failure. You'll need something to monitor coolant and oil temps. The dash gauges are useless, for the most part, in that respect.

If you're not losing coolant, it's likely not the EGR cooler. But if you have an OEM EGR cooler in the engine, I would either replace it with a welded (BPD) model or delete it.
If you're in there to do that, replace the oil cooler too. Do a thorough cooling system flush before.........
