So this lady's purse was right on top of the checkstand, next to the card reader terminal. The card reader terminal read the card in her purse.
As I explain to the other people in the bar: This could never happen to me.
Not because I don't carry a purse.
My card is in my wallet. My wallet is in the front pocket of my pants. I would have to climb up onto the checkstand, and hump the card reader for that to happen. That optic would be even stranger for you guys with your wallet in your back pocket.
Rob in the city, I didn't check out your videos in on the run and need to get moving. I spent many years hanging out in the bars, it was a good time and met a lot of good people and some not so good people.
Pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Simple. Yet, very difficult to make. Thick fluffy pancakes. Crispy bacon without the grease. And eggs are so easy to cook, and easy to mess up at the same time. Things I learned as a kid, from hunting and fishing trips. My dad was not a conventional teacher. He just did it while drinking a can of beer. I paid attention. There was no conventional instruction. I sort of just mimicked. Monkey see, monkey do. I paid attention to what went into the pancakes. But just like Dad, I don't measure anything. Just start adding everything, and eye it. Eye the bacon, and flip it when it sort of looks like it needs to be flipped. Same with the eggs. My ex has an electric griddle, and it just does not work as well. This morning, Dad was wondering if we could even afford to eat breakfast, with the rising grocery prices. I don't know. Inflation is raising prices for everything, and our paychecks are not catching up.
I know the feeling. Since I am now in the search for a pickup, I cannot believe the prices of used vehicles these days. For a 2002 Ranger they want $9000! I went to a used car lot Saturday to check out a 2004 Dodge Dakota listed for $3,999 on Craigslist. They claim financing is available. Then they state the price includes a $1,000 cash discount. So the price is automatically $4,999, and then they add another $1,000 for tags, which are two years past due. So now this four-thousand-dollar truck is six thousand, and they want 50% up front. And it is not even in good shape. Interior looks good and the tires look new, but they body and paint have seen better days. It also has 200k miles on it.
My rent is going up another 10% next month. Social security gave us the biggest increase in January then it has in a long time, and four months into the year it is already been eaten up by inflation. I have lived in these apartments for five years, and the rent stayed the same for the first three. Now it has gone up twice in two years. With the end of the pandemic food stamps I will need to spend more of my check on food, and it sure does not help that the prices keep going up.

Something I learned just a couple weeks ago. If you start the bacon in a cold (non-stick) pan. Before it gets hot, pour in a 1/4 cup or so of water (enough to cover the bacon). This will hold the temperature to the boiling point of water, and keep the bacon from getting too hot and splattering all over the place. By the time the water boils off, the fat will have been rendered, and the bacon finishes off with a minimum of splatter. This worked really great.
My next door neighbors got their "welcome to country living" moment last night. I heard some water rushing, like a fast moving creek or something about 9pm. When I investigated with a flashlight I could see multiple streams of water as big around as my thigh emerging from the neighbors property near their driveway. I hustled over to let them know and by the time I got to their door and had them come out to see, all 15,000 gallons had drained out and was in the drainage ditch and street. I think they have a 4-6" pipe that comes down the hill from their elevated tanks to a couple fire hydrants in front of the house at about 40 PSI. That pipe must have burst just under their paver driveway as that is where most of the water was coming out. They paid $3M for the place last June and they're now in the 3rd world this morning with no running water. Sigh, welcome to the country.
Wow. That sucks big time. I have had to be without water for over 24 hours. Not fun. The owner of the apt was forced to put me up in a motel for a week. I hope and pray that your neighbors can get it repaired quickly.
We had an underground leak that I discovered when I found our well pump was running way too much. We hired a guy who had a business doing "Underground Detection Services". Since we had no idea where the underground pipes ran, he hooked up a compressor to the suspected line, we shut off the valves on both ends, and he proceeded to go around with this high-tech listening device. In the process, he figured out exactly where the pipe ran, AND he located the leak within a 3' circle. He also said the pipe appeared to be down about 5'. The guy's detection was spot-on, and we found a fitting that had ruptured. That pipe had been in the ground maybe 20 years.
