Valve body can change shift feel or firmness but the timing (on 4R100) is controlled by the PCM. I assume what he tuned for you was the hole diameters which will affect how fast clutches engage once the shift is commanded.
What is the relationship of "Tuners and Chips" with the PCM and hole sizes of the Valve Body?
Hello Mark, what does the Valve Body in the picture do? https://www.brianstruckshop.com/ That is what Brian changed out under the pan of the transmission. And it did/does shift very differently than when he first overhauled it. So I would 'assume' that Brian has reconfigured the Valve Body to cause shifting differently. Some 'Valve Bodies to Factory specs and some changed to a different performance?
Thank-you for being here, Mark.
That is the accumulator body. It can change how quick the shifts are, which also changes how firm or soft they are. It has nothing to do with WHEN it shifts, just how hard or soft.
The computer determines when the shifts happen. Without a major redesign of the transmission, Brian isn't changing that.
To everyone who offered advice and knowledge... Y’all and this forum have bailed me out more times than I can count. So I can’t say it enough, THANK YOU!
I ended up taking the transmission to a local shop to have it rebuilt. Ralph’s transmissions in Sarasota, FL. They came highly recommended from some gentlemen on Facebook. Mr. Tim, the tech that done the rebuild had me out the door in 4 days, that’s including the day I dropped the trans off to him at 4pm. Super nice guy, and was very knowledgeable to boot.
just got back from the first test drive that wasn’t ‘just round the block’. Has a nice smooth shift, and the TC has nice gentle but positive lock up. Haven’t had the ***** to turn the tunes back on yet. Figure I’d drive it in a stock time for a few heat cycles. Honestly don’t know if it really matters or not….
Mr. Tim said my transmission was “smoked”. Major hard part damage, and fried clutches and seals. Said one of the bearings went inside and chewed some seals for the pump up, causing Catastrophic failure. Which I find odd, because when it laid down, it was literally like hitting neutral. No bangs, no lockups, no slippage, nothing… he said it was “just worn out”. Which is strange, because I have a build sheet from 2017 for the transmission… it didn’t last 55,000 miles. Hope this one lasts at least 2x that long!!
again, Thank you everyone who did what you could to help a feller out. Greatly appreciate it!!
