Stock up on that generator fuel, if you can store it safely. How's the access to the rest of The County? Any progress on road repairs?
One of the reported fallen trees in SF, fell right in front of a fire station. 2 people were injured. They were lucky that the firefighters were right there. It could have been worse. Those old trees have roots underground, beneath concrete. When they fall, the concrete street rips up and out.
Only supposed to be an hour or so of rain today. From noon to 1pm. The 55+group at church is having a Bingo get together at 1:30pm. If it is done raining by then I will try to make it. Haven't played Bingo in decades. Mainly going for the fellowship. Living alone doesn't give me too many opportunities to talk to people. And with my insurance being raised $45 next month it means I will have even less money to live on. I called Geico and asked why my bill went up and she put me on hold to find out, then came back and responded with the pandemic, and prices of everything going up. I'm surprised she didn't say because I have had two claims in less than six months. Going to have to cut corners somewhere.
I cut corners with food. Coupons. Only buy it on sale. This week, several stores have chicken on sale. Pork ribs are on sale. I will be eating chicken and ribs.
Lucky Stores around here is advertising Tuna for $4. I wonder if it's a misprint.
Sale ads for my area come out on Wednesday. A few days ago, to took advantage of the last week's ad, and I got sirloin. Oh so good. Oh so cheap. It's in the same area of the cow as other more expensive cuts. Sirloin steaks are usually so big, that I can separate the Picanha and turn every steak into 2 steaks.
We stocked up on fuel for the generator on Wednesday, and I think it will get us through today. We have 3 big 6 gallon jerry cans we keep out in the shed near where the generator sits when it's running. One jerry can will get us through 1 day. If it looks like power won't return today, we'll need to make another run.
Roads are closing and re-opening quite rapidly. Last I heard 9, 84, and Old La Honda Road were closed for one thing or another. That leaves us with old, reliable Page Mill Road as our only path to the valley. We might be able to use 92 if we can get there.
As I was having breakfast, I was wondering when sirloin would be on sale again. This really is a good steak cut. Because it's only 10 minutes to cook, it retains all the juices. The Picanha steak actually seems like it's better than New York strip loin....... Eggs are so expensive, I left them off the plate. We are in the postcovid new normal. The new steak and eggs is without the eggs.
Stop right there. I draw the line at lettuce. Rabbit. Guinea Pig. Rodents kept as pets. Vegans. Protestors . They eat lettuce. I stopped eating it when the price for a head of lettuce doubled.
My girl, who is some sort analyst in the financial sector, explained capitalism and the free market economy as it relates to steak. Sirloin steak may be exactly the same texture, flavor, etc. NY steak , T-Bone, Filet Mignon, etc. has better market demand. The NY steak has a better marketing and distribution schematic. It's like hooking up with the girl who wears revealing clothes. The sirloin is the ugly girl at the dance....... Nobody is promoting it. The sirloin steak doesn't have a pimp.
And all this time I thought sirloin was a top notch steak. Go figure. No lettuce eh? You will eat tomatoes, but not lettuce. Again, go figure.
Jim
Sirloin is a great steak. It is from the same subprimal as all of those expensive cuts. Tenderloin, Picanha, filet mignon, Delmonico, NY, T-Bone, porterhouse.......... You are eating the same meat. Half the price. Probably because it's weird shape, which makes each steak and every steak an irregular cut. And it's good with mango too.
