I can't find any info on the front bearings on my 08 e450. Anyone know where to find a vid on replacing? It's got the recessed hub.
Do I replace the entire hub? How do I remove/get to that recessed cap?
I haven't tried yet, just concluded that's the noise I'm hearing and trying to decide whether to replace on the road or try to get 1800m back home first.
Not "grinding" really, just a rubbing noise. I keep feeling it at each stop and it never feels warm. But today I think I heard the noise increase when turning. Makes less noise at 60mph.
If I only had to drive the interstate home I'd feel better, but I have 6 stops to make around Miami involving city traffic.
And here is a video for doing the same on a 2003 E-350 which the mechanic states is very similar for 1995 to 2018 E-350s and for E-450s but he notes the 450 has bigger parts. So the first video above you can see your specific hub and the second might be a little more detailed on the general process. Hope these help.
Sorry for the delay, thanks, Al. Exactly what I needed. I hate trying to research from my phone - for whatever reason, Google pumps more of their recommendations at you on mobile, real hard to just find what you're looking for. I think there must a difference between the E- and F-Series front hubs. I was thinking there was more to getting the rotors off that had recessed hubs from watching my truck's brakes get done by a shop. But, that was long ago and I forget so much.
It was a bad wheel bearing. Was noisy when I left Houston, but I never felt the hub getting warm when I'd stop until I pulled into my brother's driveway in Naples, Fl. about 1500 miles later. And just a little warm. But I took it apart and the bearing was coming apart. Put the new ones in, but just on that side. Now, I'm back home and will replace the other side before my next trip.
