front end noise? hub? wheel bearings?
My truck started making a lil noise up front... so i jacked up the front tires separately. Made sure hubs were not engaged... the driver wheen spins pretty freely with a just a lil noise or "growl"...
I then jack up passenger wheel... it spins but not as easy and with a lil more noise or "growl"
and both wheels felt tight with no play. Up down or side to side...
my question is how would I tell if it's hubs or wheel bearing? Or both? I believe they are all original... i have never fixed this before on a truck... any ideas? How much do u think this cost to fix? Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

The noise is hard to describe... no clunking. No popping... it's doesn't happen on bumps or when I'm turning. And my esof 4 wheel is working fine... with no weird noises...All I can say is the wheel just doesn't spin nice and free... and the passenger wheel is slightly worse with the growl... it kind hums when driving at say 30 -50 mph... i just drove 120 miles of highway and my fuel mileage is great...

Get the tire back up in the air. Grab the top and the bottom pushing one pulling the other. If you have any play it's the hub.
From what you're describing it could be the hub but could also be a stuck slide pin. If you haven't greased them up lately you should. I used to do mine once a year or so. I usually got one year at most two years out of a hub on my SD... 38s kill hubs

Yanking at 12 and 6 and getting motion can also be bad ball joints. Yanking at 9 and 3 and getting motion targets the hubs better, so motion there is usually the hubs.
If you do need hubs the word is the Timkens are best. And bring in a lug nut since they come in both fine and coarse thread.
X2 with John it also sounds like it could be sticky slide pins. Or even failed needle bearings on the stub shaft. Diagnosis via internet is pretty dicey. But my money is on the hubs.
