Starting my project!!

So,Earl had a small fire before I purchased him. It’s been about 5 years since it happened. The previous owner held onto him hoping to revive him. He decided to go a different direction.

I wanted to start this thread for two reasons. The main one is to seek advice on parts, procedures, and suggestions as I progress. As others have done, the second is to show Earl’s progress back to life.

Thank you in advance and I look forward to the journey.

Good luck with your project. Best advice: It's a long journey so try to focus on, and enjoy every step. Before you know it you'll be looking back at those photos.

....at the beginning!? Lordy....it all just depends on your objective. A dozen members here will give you a dozen different angles to take. Complete restoration, drive as you restore, mechanical first and cosmetics later, safety first, get it running, brakes, electrical, keep the patina.....on and on. Now that you've found FTE, you can do a search and find a variety of different approaches and determine what suits you. Whatever you decide, help is here for every step of the way. Personally, I am a "complete disassembly and rebuild every component from the ground up"....kind of guy. But that's not what everyone wants or is able to do. I had no problem working on my project and not being able to drive it for five years. I have space and time. Also consider if you're going to modify such as disc brakes, power steering, engine swap...etc. The trip and the amount of money and work you will put into your project just depends on where you're going to take it. By the way, it looks like your fire was in the engine wiring harness so, obviously that's going to get completely replaced...and its available. The main under dash harness is not, so you need to see if its salvageable, unless you intend to go to a modern replacement wiring harness. Fortunately it doesn't look like the sheet metal suffered much.

Wow!! Thank you very much. I’ve decided to get it running first and worry about the cosmetics later.

I’ve been looking at the different wiring harnesses and comparing prices. The fire did melt the dash a little. I need to some pictures of under the dash as well and get those posted.

I agree with everything that resonateur said! Take lots of photos. Since you are in Oregon, get to know Brian Morrison at Slick Truck Parts. https://slicktruckparts.com He is just outside Eugene and has a lot of parts that you may need. Join some of the many F100 Facebook groups, if you do Facebook. Lots of different information and opinions there, but the majority of the actual experienced based knowledge is right here on FTE. Another good source of info is the Fordification site. From decoding your Warrantee tag to tech to visual reference in their "Library" section. FORDification.info - The '61-'66 Ford Pickup Resource
Enjoy the project!
