Shocks

I’m going to replace my shocks on my 2015 F350 6.7 and just curious what other people used. I replace shocks with Bilstiens 5100 on my grandsons 2006 f250 6.0 a few years back and they are really good. I don’t do heavy hauling, just pull a small front end loader occasionally. I’m after a smooth ride. Thanks

I have plans to replace the factory Ranchos this year finally, she's at 100k miles now and overdue, with Monroe Gas Magnum shocks. I'm going to order from Rock Auto and save some serious $$$ as they are at least twice the cost, probably triple, at Advance Auto.

I have run Monroe Gas Magnums for years on various trucks, always had good luck with them.

I have run Bilstein 5100 for many miles(250k+) and they are good shocks that seem to last. However I feel that they are a firmer calibration than stock. Its not a bad thing necessarily, just my observation. This last time I decided to try Fox 2.0, and I've run approx 20k miles and I really like them.

I replaced the original shocks with 5100's, the ride went to Hades.

Thanks all for the posts. I know the Bilstiens 5100 are a good shock, but I’m going to research the Fox 2.0 and the Monroe Gas magnums before I buy. Thanks for the input

I had Bilsteins on my truck. They seemed to work fine. More recently I was noticing a rougher ride and some odd noises coming from the rear of my truck. I decided to swap out the Bilstein's for Fox 2.0's and they seemed to help a little. I later found the root of my rough ride problem....disintegrated body mounts (S&B's are planned soon).

As for Bilsteins, this is some info I gathered a few years ago:

If you go the Bilstein route you might want to consider the 4600's over the 5100's. I called Bilstein a few weeks ago and the gentlemen I spoke with strongly recommended the 4600's for a non-lifted truck even though the 5100 description says 0-2" lift. He said that the 4600's will perform better than the 5100's on the stock height truck.

I'm satisfied with my Rancho 9000XL shocks on my F-350 that sees a lot of towing and rough roads.

I had a very expensive set of shocks on my 1/2 ton pickup a few years back. They needed to be rebuilt, which was going to take at least two weeks. I put a set of Bilstein shocks (probably the 5100's) on and was very impressed, especially compared to the very expensive shocks. Bilstein didn't have shocks for my F-350 when I needed them, so I went with the Rancho shocks. I do like the ability to adjust the shocks for towing versus unloaded.

I understand that Bilstein and Fox make quality stuff and have name brand recognition, but my truck rode pretty good with the factory Ranchos, I guess "pretty good" is subjective as we are talking about a heavy duty 1 ton truck as I'm sure those were made as cheap as possible. Since I've just daily driven mine for the past 100k miles, I'm sure the Gas Magnums would suit me fine. But someone who hauls with their trucks may be better suited with a firmer shock like the Bilstein 5100. Just my 2 cents worth...

I put the Bilstein 4600's on my 13 years ago. About 60k on them now and I've been very happy with them.

I put the 5100's on my truck around 10k miles or so. I immediately was able to tell that the truck was more planted and less bouncy. I have no experience with any other shocks, or any other trucks. I was also interested in the Fox shocks, but just like with my bike, I couldn't afford them! LOL.

I have KYB monomaxx up front and adjust a gas in the rear, did a nice job of taking the rear end bounce out of the truck. First time using KYB but the pricing was pretty good on rock auto.

Same here. I used a few different shocks and the 5100s were my favorite. I liked them because they were firm and not squishy.
