Ignition for 1978 460 into 1964 F250
Need some advice. I do not have any of the Duraspark components from the 78 donor. Since I'm starting from scratch, what is the most simple option and the most budget friendly? Can I eliminate the ICM and run another distributor with points? If so what distributor can you recommend?
Again, looking for a cheap simple option just to get it running... for now.

460 Distributor
Set the plugs to .032-.036
There is nothing wrong with using a points distributor as long as you don't mind doing a little maintenace every now and then. and you can always put a pertronix module in there if you want to eliminate the points.
Use this to check the end play.

460 Ford Forum Try this site to learn more about 460 Ford engines. I have used HEI distributors for years without difficulty. These distributors have an enclosed coil and electronic control modules. This is a plug and play solution to your missing distributor problems. These distributors sell on ebay for less than $100.00. Before you install this engine, that you have not ran, I suggest you ground start it to be sure it is usable.
Engine swaps are a tough way to start learning about these old Fords. Do you have an engine in he truck now? If you have an engine in the truck and if it is repairable or can be replaced with the same engine, I would do that. Later as time and funds are available you can always do the engine swap. I'd just try to get your truck up and running with what you have. Changing the power train in a 1964 F250 over to a 460 will cost thousands and take months. I speak from personal experience.
