This morning the engine light came on and the 'OD off' light on the shift level was flashing. I know I have a slow leak in my transmission lines (getting that done over winter), so I pulled the dipstick and there was no fluid visible. It wasn't quite up to operating temp yet, but I put in a quart and the OD light went off and it shifted normally after a few miles. Engine light is still on though so I will check / clear codes when I get it back home. How low does the fluid have to get before it triggers the light?
Low fluid doesn't trigger the light. There is nothing that measures the fluid level in the transmission. If it is low enough that the clutches slip that will set a code, flash the OD OFF light, and damage the slipping clutches.
Hmmmm. Also, it came on immediately, just as soon as I started it. How would it know it was causing slippage if it was still in park? Also, it was pretty cold, maybe that combined with low levels did it.
