Hi, I recently ordered a new black exhaust tip for my 2020 6.7 and noticed it’s not intercooled like my old one. From what I’ve read, during regens that helps keep the temp down quite a bit. Probably should have looked into this before making the purchase
Does anyone have any experience with non-intercooled tips and how the regen cycle has gone? Any feedback is welcomed.
Yeah I heard the same! Was curious if anyone knew if that was true. It’s hard to believe that it would be so intense. If it is true I’ll get rid of the new exhaust tip,I don’t want to chance it.

When you say exhaust tip, you mean "just the tip" (sorry couldn't resiste) or you bought a DPF back exhaust with a single pipe that a tip could be added to? Or are you deleted already with a single pipe exit which would explain it?
EGT4 temps get up to 1100 degrees plus so yeah, it gets pretty hot during an active regen.
Haha! I am not deleted but I bought a 5” Magnaflow dpf-back exhaust a while back that came with a chrome intercooled tip. It exits pretty similar to the stock exhaust behind the passenger tire. I don’t have anything chrome on the truck so I thought I would swap it out with a black one. Most of the aftermarket tips I noticed were not intercooled and I picked one up from sinister diesel that wasn’t.
I should have probably looked into this beforehand. Thanks for your help!
I’ve got the Banks 5” Monster DPF back exhaust with a single tip and that was one of my concerns before I bought it. Had it on almost a year now and have towed heavy with Regens happening while towing and have had no issues. A Regen is the worst case with almost 1200 degrees potentially coming out, but they seem to have engineered these single pipe exits so that heat isn’t an issue.

IMO I don't believe it'll be an issue as long as you doing active regens while moving. Truth be told, the only reason I could see that they "intercool" aka holes or a way for fresh air to mix with hot exhaust gases exhaust tips would be to lower the temps of the exhaust coming out for safety reasons. I'm no engineer and I could be off base here but I really don't see how an intercooled tip and even a non-intercooled tip (no holes) would even effect the regen in the first place, especially if the truck is moving during one. The paint may peel on your new tip as that's god awful hot but that's just my take on it.
Let us know how the new tip stands up to the heat.

It looks like Banks has designed the exhaust tip to help cool the regen process. Below is the description from the Banks website:
"5" aluminized steel constant-diameter DPF-back system with Patented negative backpressure SideKick tip. 82% less backpressure than stock, allowing the engine to produce more horsepower. Improves flow and cuts backpressure. Includes Huge Cerakote Black Patented SideKick tip."
I appreciate everyone's help. I think I am going to put the original tip back on until a find one that won't bake the paint off of the bedside.
