Exhaust ideas?

I'm in the process of repairing/replacing my truck's exhaust. I'd like to temporarily do dual exhaust to avoid having to use my rotted y pipe. Does anyone know of a cheap way to run dual exhaust? I'm thinking of running flex pipe from both manifolds to those cheap autozone mufflers until I can afford some real dual exhaust (probably a couple of months from now). Will this work? What do you guys do for cheap temporary exhaust systems?

By the way I'm required to have a full exhaust system or else I'll get a ticket for my exhaust being too loud or for having missing exhaust so I can't just run without any

I say do it once and do it right. - Y-pipes are available from Autozone and RockAuto.

For a ultra lo-buck, there was a member here who used junkyard systems and adapted them to his rig to get dual exhaust.

On the other hand, low-buck mufflers, a tubing kit from Speedway Motors, and hangers/clamps from your local shop can get you there for around $200.

I would just buy some exhaust tape and wrap up the rotted Y-pipe, this should tide you over until you can install duals....the right way.

A good exhaust shop can build you a good high flow y- pipe. Magnaflow makes a y-fitting. I just did a 460 swap and needed new exhaust with y-pipe and the shop used a magnaflow y fitting.
Do it right the first time-it will cost less in the long run.

Go to a muffler shop and have your duels put on. Like orangeford said, it'll save you money in the long run. I had duels put on my 78 F350 a long time ago and there still on there. I had the mufflers installed on the outside of the frame just under the doors. Had the manifold exhaust come under frame just aft of radius rod and the exhaust crossed back under just in front of rear spring, then up and over axle and out the back. Midas did my work but any good muffler shop should be able to do the job.

Hooker makes a true dual kit (Summit). Its around $200 plus turbo mufflers of your choice. That's the best low cost setup I know of.

I don't know of any good way to attach flex to the manifolds... plus with the full heat of the exhaust it wouldn't hold up at all.
