The real question, who is sitting around in their house at zero dark thirty and feels the need to use their phone to see what the DEF level in their truck might be? I can see using the app to start the truck or lock/unlock it but is checking DEF away from the truck really needed.
I'll admit, I haven't looked at mine in a long time until this thread... now everyones doing it though!!

The capability to check the DEF level isn't any different than the ability to check the fuel level or see the mileage or the tire pressures. It is a matter of convenience for some and just a gadget for others.
The real question was why did some folks have the ability to see the DEF level while others didn't and it seems to come down to Ford de-contenting the trucks to some degree or another. Since it has become very apparent that the Sync 4 trucks, regardless of trim level do not get the DEF level in the app while Sync 3 trucks, from 2020 and beyond do have the DEF level in the app. The feature must have been built into Sync 3 and then removed when they upgraded us to Sync 4.
22' Lariat Tremor here, no DEF gauge showing in the app.
I'm hoping it's a software glitch that they fix eventually along with the spam I'm getting about my truck "going into deep sleep to conserve battery" 20 times a day.
I also wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a microchip or something.
These screen shots make me wonder how it comes up with the DEF distance to empty. One says 8k miles (post 36) another says 2k miles (post 35), and others in-between. All the same size tank. I understand heavy towing goes through it faster but that is a big spread.

Yeah, I have too... It has been a month since I have towed, but will be towing again this weekend, so I assume it will go down again. I don't know if it calculates off of the last tank of fuel, or what it uses to determine these numbers. I will try to watch it this weekend to see if it does anything... But, regardless of miles, when the gauge gets to half full I will top it off, or if I am towing a lot I will just top it off every couple of fill ups while I'm at the pump. After this weekend it will be another couple of weeks before I tow again, so depending on what it reads after this trip I may wait till after my next trip to top it off...

Yep, in my case (35) I just filled it up after getting home from a 7 week trip pulling my 15000# 5th wheel.
