DEF Level gauge

on the 2011 F350s is there a way to have a DEF level present on the screen at all ? other than having to go through the check for it to tell you DEF level ok.. i would like to be able to see how much def fluid is in the truck at all times.. i wasn't sure if this is something that can me seen on anything.. i know the computer has to monitor the level in the tank just didn't know if i could put that on the dash somehow

Simple answer is no.

Ford did not put a calibrated level measuring setup in the 2011-2016 trucks. The setup used by Ford is similar to the tank level indicators in your RV tanks. You can read more about it by reviewing the 6.7 Coffee Table Book here...

The 2011's alert at 800 MTE so if you forget to check it before a long trip with that heavy trailer, you'll have plenty of time to refill at alert.

And the more complicated answer is yes but you will need a few things.

Bluetooth OBDII Scanner
Torque Pro App
Smart Phone

....You can view the following. There is more but it takes a few more screens to populate all the information.

And don't mess around with cheap ELM 327 readers from Amazon.

https://www.scantool.net/obdlink-mxp/
Comes with OBDLink.

It's still the same sensors.

Sorry, but the simple and complex answer is still NO.

The screens are nice and fancy BUT you can NOT accurately monitor DEF use. Sure, you can code the TorquePro to simulate DEF usage but is will soon do like my Edge CTS/CTS2 did. My CTS/CTS2 appeared to be recording the usage of DEF but it stop decreasing when it got to 66%. And the next warning I got was I have 500 miles til my speed is limited.

As I stated above, the level sensors are like the RV water tanks. The DEF level sensors use 4 probes. One probe is ground, one probe is full, One probe is for less than half full and the 4th probe would be the point the ECU says you have 500 miles to speed limited. It is NOT a resistor type gauge like in the fuel tank. See below.

I have a cheap Chinese ODBII ELM327 bluetooth adapter, KONNWEI is the name, that works great. Cost was approx $12.00 on eBay. It works as good as my OBDLink MX that cost me $80.

I tried two, couldn't get either to communicate with Torque Pro and loaded as incompatible for FORscan for both my SD and Fusion. I should have just got the OBDlink the first time, sometimes I'm just unlucky! I do like having the enhanced diagnostics add-on though with the mx+.

I use the Konnwei in my HHR to reset the knock sensor CEL. Connects with no problems. I use the OBDLink MX in my 2015 SD to monitor the Oil Life PID I created. Both are using TorquePro to reset the CEL and monitor the oil life.

I have swapped the Konnwei and the MX between the two vehicles with no problems. They both connect with ease. I use my Samsung Note 8 to run TorquePro.

If I use my laptop with FORScan, I use a cheap chinese ELM327 hardwired USB OBDII USB adapter with the MS/HS switch.

Yeah I understand its not accurate, at least using torque pro is sufficient enough to give us an idea what's left in the tank.

Thanks for explaining that, Larry. My iDash 1.8 does the same thing. It's working when I thought it wasn't but you've shown it's a common problem with these aftermarket PIDS readers and why. You would think Ford would have done that right from the get go. Obviously they did with this current gen of Super Duty's.
Once again, you prove that you know what the h*ll is going on. Thank you for sharing, AGAIN

really?....it is not accurate at all when you probes. Like an RV black water tank, it shows full, is there enough room for one more poop left?.......lol...or will it over flow?...

And for DEF

Is there enough DEF to make this trip before it counts down or speed limits me?

what is the lowest % of DEF left have you witnessed?...How much DEF did you add when you filled the tank?

These are from the TorguePro thread

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...nded-pids.html

The PID for DEF level is based on division by "4" and not a graduated linear scale like used in your fuel tank level sending unit.

DEF Level 6.7
PID: 220487
Unit: L (liters)
Min-max: 0-5 (or your DEF tank size)
Equation: A/4

This PID might be more advantageous than the level..;

Posted by DJOUSMA

As for my Add DEF light, I've already tweaked it:

220487
DEF Add Indicator 6.7L
Add DEF
0
100
x1
L
((A/4)*-1)+9.51

Honestly I have no idea what I'm talking about! I don't monitor DEF level withTorque Pro I just look at it on occasion during a regen and just assumed it's somewhat accurate.

I'll take your word for it since I know you know a lot more about these trucks than I do.
