My alternator wasn't working, I ordered a new one and when I removed the old one I found a broken wire at the pigtail connector. I took the alternator to be tested but they said it was 'inconclusive', I bought a new pigtail/connector but I am uncertain how to connect it. The wire was broken off at the connector, this alternator take only 2 wires, the pigtail has 3, the Shop Electrical manual show the connector being pinned out on 'A' & 'B' but I get continuity from 'A' & 'C' like I'm reading thru the regulator, the pigtail terminals are not identified and I cannot determine which terminal the old connector was connected to. This is on a E350 and getting to the alternator is a job, you can't get to the wiring once the alt is bolted up. Any suggestions to where I can find out the proper connection? This is a 215a alternator, part of the ambulance package.
I found a photograph of one from an old post on here, connected it up, reinstalled the alternator and it still won't charge. I pulled it back off, my local big rig/truck supply knew the alternator and can get one from Tennessee, an old pro alternator/starter rebuilder favored by the farmers called me after I spoke to the truck supply place, he has the ability to test the thing and when I asked about rebuilding it he said he'd test it and we'd go from there. Sounds like my kind of guy. I'm meeting him at his shop Monday morning and will let you know how it goes.
Thanks, Oj

Well, I got it tested yesterday and it has failed. The guy said he might be able to rebuild it, getting the parts is an issue, the plan is to see about the new one from the truck supply, if that one isn;t right then we'll explore the rebuild. I'm heading to the truck place this morning.

Good luck.
I've forgotten a bit to much to really be of a huge use on these details.
