I was driving around locally not doing much, just local driving and not towing. My truck shows trans temp as pegged, and torque pro shows it RIDICULOUSLY high! Im not doing anything with it. Faulty sensor? What to check?
I did a little research, it points to a bad sensor. Shifts are VERY firm from gear to gear, thank God it didnt go into limp mode. Im gonna order te sensor, filter, gasket, and fluid from rock auto tonight. Hope thats what it is?
Thanks. I kinda of chuckled at your seemingly unsure post. That sensor is a common failure. Unfortunately, there is a small chance it is a wiring issue instead. I'm betting on the simple solution.
Since you have a flashing tow/haul light, then you have a code. Might be helpful to others to pull that and post the code number.
I didnt think about the code...damn it! Ill do it in the morning. Both Torque Pro and Forscan lite will see the code.
I wasnt unsure of what to do, i wanted ti change thr trans fluid and filter anyways, so now is time to do it. Doesnt look like a bad job at all.
Just saying hope thats the problem? Dumber things have happened, but it is what it points to. Good one sec, 8000+ degrees(as hot as the sun or hotter?) the next! So has to be a bad sensor or wiring, either way its getting fixed!
A little late to your thread, but a great time to put in the 6.4 trans pan and filter...
I thought about doing it, doesnt seem to be any advantage for me? What good does it really do? I average around 170° to 190° when towing, 165° solo. I thought about it, but dont know what the advantage is? Is there one?
Got it done today! New sensor, new filter and new gasket just to be safe. Took it all apart, more trans fluid came out of the port where the sensor is than I thought would, but wasnt bad. Easy job to do, just isnt fun and took some time, longer than should of taken: Had the pan back on, and came out from under it, to see the filter sitting at the front of the engine bay. So took back apart and installed it and put back together. The filter that came out was dated 7/28/2011, so it has been done before me, and it was a Ford Motorcraft filter. My replacement is a Ford Motorcraft too. Ended up putting in just shy of 10 quarts. I didn't find any metal shavings on the magnet, cleaned the pan throughly before putting it back together. Now the temp shows proper. The thing runs as it should. Thank everyone for their help!
How the hell does someone from Ohio not have mass quantities of rust on the undercarrage.
i bought it 4 years ago, and it came from Knoxville Tennessee. I wash it twice a week now and try and take care of it. Looks good for being almost 20 years old!
