Hi All, I hate to beat a dead horse but I am trying to see if I can put off changing the oil cooler for a little longer. I have an Edge CTS3 on my 6.0 and when towing 8-10k pounds coolant temp never goes over about 206 in this 90+ summer heat I have been dealing with but if I am pulling rolling hills at 60-65mph the oil temp will creep to 238-242 or so. So thats obviously 30+ degree difference in temps. When empty on flat ground coolant temp runs about 198-202 and oil temp runs about 210-215, which is just within the 15 degree difference ford specifies. Is there a concern with running oil temps slightly above 240 for an amount of time?
I did mine when i bought it. It was 26° difference, after my flush it has stayed at 10 to 12 degrees when towing, solo is around 8 degrees. Put a coolant filter on it too, world of difference it makes anf get rid of the gold coolant. I use ELC and has been perfect.
I will do the backflush first then. I will look up the procedure. From what I had been reading it seemed like backflushing was not usually successful but it would buy me some time before I do an oil cooler upgrade to one of the BPD kits
