Connected Navigation
I'm still learning how to properly use Android Auto, but discovered something interesting today while driving. Used it to navigate to a location unfamiliar to me in Williamsburg, VA this afternoon, and while travelling west on I-64, it spoke up and warned me of a speed trap up ahead. A mile or so down the road, sure enough, there was a state trooper sitting in the median and I assume he was using radar. My guess is someone posted his location, but even so, why did my navigation know about it if mine was running off the maps in my cell phone?

I subscribed for this year, on a vehicle I might drive once a month, with the idea that I am more likely to be committing an act of recreation off of the beaten path in it. I don't live where there is cell coverage, so Android auto isn't much help.

Funny how they are okay with that kind of distracted driving, sending cop reports to google...

What I have found interesting is that when I use the connected nav, and also have google maps running on my phone, but not running android auto, is that the maps start out with different routings but after a while the connected nav aligns itself with the google map.
So, is one seeing what the other is doing?
Google maps gives warning all the time about "speed traps", and yes, they are from other users reporting to google the locations.

for the maps aligning themselves, its my understanding sync4 is actually running google maps, i dont believe they are talking to each other but the fact they are the same program might explain why they eventually align.
Completely different UI, search engine, completely different map layouts, and google maps are updated within days or weeks of road changes, SYNC 4 maps haven't updated on mine in the last year, new roads on google maps months ago that still don't show up on SYNC 4.
That is easy to understand ... similar to people posting prices that appear on the GasBuddy website.
Yes, I know Sync 4 has no input to Android Auto, and I have not renewed the Ford navigation subscription. What I don't understand is Android Auto is supposedly using the maps I downloaded from Google Maps to my cell phone for navigating. I like this because it shouldn't be using any of my (pre-paid) data from my cell phone. But it must be using data to receive current speed trap and/or accident data. And if so, I'd like to learn if there's a way to turn off those notifications.

ok im with you now! yes its using your data to get those speed traps/wreck information. Id say to turn it off its in the map settings somewhere but I dont know where.
this times a billion. No brainer if you travel, even if it's only a few times a year. I have had Ford NAV in everything for the past 15 years. Would never leave home without it.
