Question Shift Lever vs. Brake Pedal

I have a 93' Bronco XLT 5.8.

Recently I discovered the shift lever can be removed from park without the break pedal being depressed (sad, I know).

As I recall, it was not this way when I purchased the vehicle as new.

Am I getting old and forgetful, or did something (relay, electronic module) burnout?

I know you have a 93 but I found this online. I'm not sure if you have a snter high mount brake light. If you do you mught want to check it out.

Brakes: The transmission may be able to shift out of park without the brakes being applied if the center high-mount stoplamp is burned out or missing. (1994-95)
