just a quick intro, I have a 75 f250, and it has been sitting for about 4 months, ( I dont drive it in the winter months up here in New England ), I went over to fire it up the other day, and long story short it looked to me like the fuel pump died. I have fuel from tank to the pump, but nothing coming out of fuel line at Crab, Simple enough just get a new pump and install it. Well here is where my issue is, I got a new pump from Napa, and and still no fuel at carb, I mean there isnt a lot at play here, I have ordered another pump thinking that I got a defective pump, as we all know just cus it is new doesnt mean it is any good. It was running fine all last summer, and I did drive into the garage, so I have to assume the assentrick on the cam is still working. Ant input is appreciated,
sorry I should have mentioned this , I am still using the mech pump,
I would put a little fuel down the carb or starting fluid so it runs the motor as the pump may need to work faster than it dose cranking over.
I think once you get fuel through the pump it will start working.
I would have Done that with the old pump too..
Just a thought how old are all the rubber fuel lines??
They may look OK on the outside but break down on the inside blocking fuel..
Dave ----
I was doing that yest, I have a small bottle, when I added fuel to carb it would fire rt off and run for a few seconds and die , I did this like 4-5 times, still nothing , today I am going to remoe the feed line to the carb and see if there is as coming out of pump, possible a clogged fuel line to carb, and Yes the rubber fuel lines were replaced last yr ... I do have good fuel flow from tank line
thx, I thought I was careful about location, def worth a look, I wouldnt think the pump would bolt flat to block if it was, but will check that on Friday when I get back to the barn
based on everything else you've done and if you have good flow from fuel pump to carb, sounds like the needle valve could be stuck in the seat or an extremely plugged screen/filter at the carb (if equipped). sometimes you can lightly tap around the fuel inlet and it will drop down allowing fuel to enter the carb.
Does it pump fuel when fuel line is disconnected from the pump? If so, make a new line up to the carb. If not, I would guess the pump is bad. I cant say I have never thrown some parts at something but it was definitely a long time ago. Does your fuel pump have the canister on the bottom? If so, screw it off and replace the filter as well.
It does have the canister, my 1st test on friday will be to if fuel is coming directly out of pump, I will update once I have had a chance to get back to it
take an air nozzle and wrap a rag around it. Put in filler neck and lightly blow air and pressurize tank. Don't put a lot of pressure in tank. You can balloon it very easy.
Make sure you have line off at carb and it should blow fuel up to the carb through the fuel pump. Hook up carb line and retry.
so first I would like to say thank you all so much for your input, every time I have reached out here I have always gotten great ideas and help. I got to the garage on Friday, and the 1st thing I did was to disconnect the fuel line going to the carb from the pump and I cranked the engine over a few times, and the fuel was a little more than dribbling out. I removed the pump and the top of the pump arm looked like it had a tiny bit of wear so I assumed I had it installed correctly, so I installed another new pump, and this one seemed much happier, I hooked it all up , and walla I spent the weekend driving it around hahaha...
