Hi All- replacing the bearings on the front of my 74 F250 RWD. Have taken the caliper bolt and key out ( or whatever you want to call it ) and cannot get the caliper off. It is hitting on the brake pad as I try to pull it out. I dont see any room to attach a C Clamp to push the piston back, and it looks like it is as far back as possible anyways. Any suggestions or link to a previous post about taking the calipers off ? Same goes for wheel bearing replacement too. Many thanks.
Here is what they are called. You have a duel piston caliper correct?
Have you trying a little flat tip screwdriver prying pressure where the plastic mallet head is in the pic below? The hammer head making contact with the caliper body. Caliper should swing out from the bottom, the top is under the caliper bracket lip.
You need to take the master cylinder lid off, put a rag under it, and then use a BIG Clamp to slightly compress the inner piston in a bit. Put one end on the very inside (backside) of the caliper and the other end on the outer U that has access to the outboard brake shoe. Normally not required unless the piston is froze with heavy brake pressure applied.
Make sure that the caliper body is lifted (pushed) up as far as it can go. Like when the caliper support key is in place, then bottom end of the caliper should lift (rotate) right off.
