steering column options

Greetings from Alaska - I am new to this site, but after viewing the threads possible without being a member, I wonder why I didn't sign on earlier.
Question:
I have a 1966 F100 4x4 and also have 2 tilt steering columns from my 1969 Mustang parts pile.

Is it possible to install one of the '69 columns into my '66 project?
All are floor shift models.

You don't provide enough information, maybe? No responses might mean that.

The 1966 F100 4x4 is a bit different than the 2WD trucks of the same year but more similar to them than the F250 4x4 of the same year. The steering column is a separate entity from the steering gear and is connected by a small universal joint and shaft into the forward mounted steering gear. As long as the mustang column bolts well to the underside of the dash to feel secure then you could probably eliminate the rag joint at the lower end of the Mustang column and find a way to mate it with the universal joint that's there. If it doesn't bolt up perfectly then places like Borgeson have some pieces that should be able to adapt it and fill in any gap. If the splines are a different count, for example, then you could switch to a Double-D universal joint. But, you may get lucky and not need much of anything.

Thanks for the input - I was starting to feel like a redheaded step child.
When it quits snowing, I'll do some more investigating and add more details - its only April up here and spring is even in the immediate forecast. ha-ha

This is some good information. I will do some measuring and see where everything may or may not fit - be especially easy while the engine is out.
Being 6'6", there isn't much room to lift my knee when shifting and I'm hoping one of these tilt columns would fix that issue.

Does your truck have a spacer between the column and the dash? Like about 2"? Mine does (64f100, 3 on the tree) and I see it as a potential opportunity to raise the column. I'm 6'4, 240 and I am just about smashed into the driver's seating position.

There's probably a better way to display this link but this is a recent discussion about the same issue.

I wish -
That was my first plan of attack, but the column nestles in tight at the bottom of the instrument cluster and there isn't a spacer that could be removed - maybe the difference is the column shift vs floor shift column.
Thank you for feeling my pain and trying to help.

Post up some pictures of your truck when you get a chance. Always like to see more 4x4s. Chad pretty much covered it, should be able to adapt pretty much any column just a matter of how much work your willing to do.
