Im guessing that an original is hard to come by.

My 64 is a factory automatic.

I think you will have to go with a floor shift or an aftermarket column, Im sure someone on this board has done both and will guide you on how to proceed.

Sony, The steering column is one of the more adaptable parts of the truck, so swapping another in is very doable.

What transmission are you planning to run?

You can call me John

I don't have a specific part to recommend but noticed many years ago that steering columns were swapped a lot at car shows. You have to connect your steering wheel to the gear, while holding the signal switch. AFAIK the only automatic offered in a truck in the mid 60s was C-O-M of the MX or FMX family.

A shifter will likely have to be adapted, either to the column or the floor, and I can't imaging that several of the members on here haven't done that and can offer good advice.

I believe IDIDIT is an aftermarket brand with options and that can be a little pricey.

You need correct column length, #1, cuff & wheel holder, (top) #2 and paint to fill the bucket.

FMX introduced in 1969, the only Ford trucks to use it were 1973/77 F350's with 300 I-6.

C4's were first installed in 1965 F100/250 240/300 & 1965 F350 240, 1969 F100 302.

MX Cruise-O-Matic: 1965/67 F100/350 352 & 1965/72 F350 300 I-6.

FX Cruise-O-Matic: 1958/64 F100/350 223/292.

1961/64 steering column: The steering shaft goes directly into the gearbox.

1965 F100/250 2WD was the first year for a steering coupler aka rag joint. It bolts to the flange of the steering shaft, connects to the input shaft of the steering box.

Left: 1964 F100/250 2WD, 1961/63 F100/250 2WD similar / Right: 1965/72 F100/250 2WD & 1967/72 F350.

Also, Im not sure what tranny is in my 64 F100 with a 292.

I thought it was an FMX, but according to ND that tranny was not available in a 64 F100.

The dipstick enters the tranny through the side of the pan, not through the case.

I wonder why Ford didn't put a rear crossmember for the tranny in these trucks, its a long way from the front mount to the rear end.

take a picture of the pan. ND sent out a picture that you can use to identify it by the bolt pattern.

No Passenger Car or Truck w/a 292 came with a C4, which has 11 trans pan bolt holes.
